What is Aspiring Educators? Aspiring Educators of Wisconsin (AEW) is an affiliate of the Wisconsin Education Association Council (WEAC) and National Education Association (NEA). Aspiring Educators is the only professional association in the state for pre-service educators to pursue professional development, community service, and advocacy opportunities. The organization is open to all students, but we primarily serve students planning on entering into careers in education. Aspiring Educators was created as the Student program to WEAC, and serves as a proud advocacy group for public education. There is a Aspiring Educators chapter on every campus in the state, and we serve over 1,000 members. One of the wonderful parts of being a Aspiring Educators member, is that every member is part of a much bigger picture. The structure of the organization starts with you, at your local chapter and expands to a national scope. Why we Exist Aspiring Educators exists with the purpose of sending quality teachers into public schools. Improving the field of education begins with quality teachers that care about their professions, and future teachers are the starting point of this movement. How we Support Educators We work to provide professional development opportunities, leadership seminars, community projects, volunteer events, political activism and advocacy for our students. What we do We meet as a state every three months to plan and collaborate. Campus chapters meet at their discretion to work in their communities, coordinate events, and provide professional learning opportunities for members. How to get Involved Join! To purchase your official membership go online to https://ims.nea.org/JoinNea/ and set up your membership. Attend meetings and events at your local chapter and statewide. Contact your local chapter President or the state leadership team at aspiringeducatorswi@gmail.com or lambrecd1043@uwec.edu. Get connected on social media to get up to date information. Facebook: Aspiring Educators of Wisconsin Instagram: @aspiringed Pinterest: aspiringeducatorswi Local Level This is where many of the wonderful events and professional development will take place on each individual campus. Each campus elects a leadership team at their local campus, and each chapter is represented at the state level by the local chapter president. Aspiring Educators State Level Chapter presidents make up the Aspiring Educators Board of Directors. The five state Aspiring Educators officers are also on the Board of Directors. Four of those officers are elected at the Student WEA Representative Assembly each Spring, and the President is elected usually in early December. WEAC All members of Aspiring Educators are members of the Wisconsin Education Association Council. WEAC is Wisconsin’s largest teachers union with 30,000 active teachers and 548 Aspiring Educator members reaching across the state (as of March 2019), and we have the opportunity to have a voice in the association. The Aspiring Educators President has a voting seat on the WEAC Board of Directors. NEA Aspiring Educators is an award-winning organization affiliated with the National Education Association. A student is elected to a two year term as the National Student Chairperson and represents students on the NEA Board of Directors.
